OK, let me see if I’ve got this straight…
NAACP is hosting a protest against voter ID laws in Raleigh, NC. That’s simple enough.
Organizers send out a memo telling protesters what to bring. That’s simple too. Good planning.
Wait a minute? What’s that last item on the list? “DO bring photo identification (driver’s license, passport or other valid photo id) with you and keep it on your person at all times.” Hmmmm… Now I’m lost. Maybe I’m missing something here.
Isn’t that what they’re protesting against? This ID that they’re REQUIRED to bring and CARRY ON THEM AT ALL TIMES is the exact same ID they’d be asked to produce as voter ID. So tell me again… how, exactly, is voter ID disenfranchising certain segments of the population?
Or are they also disenfranchising those same people?
Hypocrisy? Confusion? Or simply poor planning? Let me know what you think…
