IOWA WEBCAM ABORTIONS, BANNED? NOT YET.

The Iowa state House just passed a ban on telemed, aka webcam, abortions. A webcam abortion? I had to look it up. I couldn’t fathom exactly how this would work. Here’s how it goes…

A woman walks into a “clinic”. She speaks to the physician by webcam. If he clears her for an abortion, then a lockbox opens with the prescription and instructions to walk her through a do-it-yourself, drug-induced abortion. Then sends her home to endure the painful process of aborting the baby over the next few days. No physical exam! No physician oversight. Only a suggestion to come back in for a “followup” after 2 or 3 weeks! What could go wrong? Plenty!

I thought the whole purpose of legalizing abortion was so that women could receive proper medical attention with the procedure and not be subjected to dangerous do-it-yourself abortions…

So the Iowa House voted to ban this type of abortion. The Iowa Board of Medicine also voted to ban them. They are concerned for the safety and well-being of the women. 14 women have died so far because of webcam abortions.

Planned Parenthood isn’t as concerned about the lives of women as they are about the women being able to get an abortion at all costs, even at the risk of their own life. Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit to block the ban by the Iowa Board of Medicine. So that decision is stayed until final resolution.

The Iowa House now sends the bill over to the Senate for consideration. The Democrat-led Senate, where it’s expected to be filed under a stack of papers somewhere, never to be seen again.

In the meantime, women will keep dying.
