It doesn’t matter if it’s your property and your sign, if the government says remove it, you better comply… at least until you retain a lawyer!
A Christian Texas woman put up a sign on her property displaying the 10 Commandments. No, it wasn’t a small sign. It was big enough for the folks driving along the local highway to see, along with all the other commercial advertisements known to litter a highway. So what’s the big deal?
The sign wasn’t obscene. It wasn’t commercial.
Still, a Department of Transportation official notified her it needed to be removed. They’ve since changed their minds (I suspect it was not long after they got a call from her attorney), but told her she needs to go through some sort of permitting process.
Folks, if you hear of things like this happening, you need to stand your ground and help others stand theirs. If it happens to someone else, it could happen to you. So take up a collection and help them fight! We’re all in this together and if we don’t hang onto those rights, they’ll slip away one by one.
Is this issue a free speech, property rights, or religious freedom issue? Which do you think precipitated the initial call from DOT? Let me hear your thoughts!
