Remember the “Keep America Beautiful” commercials from the 1970’s with the crying Native American Indian? Do you think these commercials would fly today? I don’t think they’d get past the PC (political correctness) police.
Iron Eyes Cody (an Italian-American playing a Native American!) starred in this series of commercials. The effectiveness of both the campaign and advancement of Native American causes was successful. In 1995, the Native American Hollywood community honored Cody for his contribution to their causes. Apparently, they weren’t offended by the commercials or his portrayal of a Native American. So… why are we so ultra-sensitive today?
