As Washington DC prepares for their “recess,” our do-nothing Congress has once again done what they do. They’ve passed legislation and sent it to the Senate for a vote. That’s the process. That’s how our government is supposed to work. One branch writes a piece of legislation and sends to the next for consideration, debate, and a vote. If it passes, it moves to the President (Executive Branch) for the final vote.
Sadly, more often than not, our Senate won’t even take the legislation up for debate, let alone a vote.
As is the case with the recent legislation passed by the House of Representatives. The House passed a bill to overturn Obama’s Executive Order suspending deportations (which he had no business doing because it overrode existing law). They’re trying to stem the tide coming across the southern border.
Do you think the Senate will take this matter up to vote on it? Doubtful. In fact, if I were a betting man… but I’m not.
The biggest crock is the Democrats and Liberals continually referring to the “do-nothing Congress”. It’s hard to do something when your co-equal branch of government refuses to follow the rules of engagement. It’s not for lack of trying. Rep. Marsha Blackburn out of Tennessee is tracking what is truly our “do-nothing Senate”. To-date, the House has passed 536 bills, 332 of them are STUCK IN THE SENATE because Harry Reid refuses to bring them to the Senate floor for a vote! What’s he afraid of??
And don’t even get me started about them taking a month-long recess in the middle of this border crisis with 332 pending pieces of legislation.
The good news is… this recess is set aside for “state work”. That means their supposed to go back to their home state and meet with constituents so they don’t lose touch with us. The bad news is… most of them just take a vacation.
I urge you to call your Congressman and Senators to find out when they’re holding townhall meetings. If they aren’t making time for the people in their district, they aren’t representing you, which means it’s time to replace them. In a “We the people“-type of government, we have a job to do. If we don’t do our part (it isn’t just voting), we get crappy legislators. Do your part!
