Military Directive: Be Considerate During Ramadan

Our military folks are being asked not to eat or drink in front of Muslim service personnel observing Ramadan as an act of “respect”. I have no problem with that…

As long as they’re going to ask everyone not to eat non-kosher food in front of observant Jews and meat in front of Christians during Lent.

In the directive, Brigade Commander Col. Kevin Glasz wrote.

“I’d like to encourage you to learn just a little more about this religion, but more importantly, I’m asking you to be considerate and do not consume food or drink in front of our Muslim colleagues; it is a simple, yet respectful action.”

I think this request is GREAT! As long as it goes for EVERY religion. Be considerate of others’ beliefs. Don’t get wigged out because they have a scripture on their PERSONAL whiteboard or because they say “God bless you.” It’s THEIR personal beliefs. Let them express themselves and exercise THEIR religion, just like you’re asking the troops to do for their Muslim colleagues. Simple as that.

You can read more about it here.
