Please do not feed the homeless

Will they posting signs like they have at the zoo?

Please DO NOT feed the animals homeless

There comes a point when something is over-regulated. I think this is one of those times.

Ft. Lauderdale has strict criminal (not civil) laws against feeding the homeless. If you don’t follow the law exactly, you can be imprisoned. More than one pastor has run afoul of the new law, so far. You can read the story here and here. The author is outraged. I agree, but for a different reason.

It doesn’t matter that the man is a pastor, or 90 years old, or a WWII vet, or a widower. He broke the law and there are consequences. Don’t get me wrong. The law sounds stupid. Nevertheless, you still have to follow it. And while you’re following it… fight with all you’ve got to overturn it.

So, what part of the ordinance did the pastor break? His charitable organization, LoveThyNeighbor.org was unable to provide portable toilets to the people he was giving food to.

What have we come to as a society when charitable folks can no longer freely give food to hungry people in need? It’s a sad state of affairs…
