If there is one word we here at Politichicks.com are not afraid of, it’s the word feminism. Just read What Women (Really) Want by Politichicks anchors Ann-Marie Murrell, Dr. Gina Loudon, and Morgan Brittany and you’ll find a great discussion on what modern-day feminism has become and how the label no longer applies to the average freedom loving American woman.
Apparently, however, media outlets are afraid of that scary “F” word.
TIME put out its fourth annual word banishment poll to readers and surprisingly the word “feminist” was put on the poll as a list to choose from along with the words “kale,” “bossy,” “bae” and others. Their description for including the word was:
“feminist: You have nothing against feminism itself, but when did it become a thing that every celebrity had to state their position on whether this word applies to them, like some politician declaring a party? Let’s stick to the issues and quit throwing this label around like ticker tape at a Susan B. Anthony parade.”
Well, cue the leftist media backlash because they weren’t having their prized ‘feminist’ word be put on a poll to be banned. It’s perfectly fine to ban the word “bossy” but not feminist.
Slate writer Amanda Marcotte called the poll “ugly and mean” and said women should be “proud” in identifying themselves as feminists. Salon columnist Jenny Kutner (the same Kutner who announced “I’m having an abortion this weekend”) wrote that the word ‘feminist’ is “a crucial indicator to others that one believes in equality.” Tell that to the over 27, 000 women who have joined the Women Against Feminism movement on Facebook that have challenged the feminist definition of “equality.”
TIME caved under the pressure from liberal news outlets and issued this apology:
“TIME apologizes for the execution of this poll; the word ‘feminist’ should not have been included in a list of words to ban. While we meant to invite debate about some ways the word was used this year, that nuance was lost, and we regret that its inclusion has become a distraction from the important debate over equality and justice.”
Sigh! How can one even have a debate over feminism if the word is not included as being controversial and worth a discussion?
Isn’t amazing how feminists have no problem banning words like bossy but make a huge uproar when the word ‘feminist’ is suggested as a word to ban. That’s kind of bossy of them, isn’t it?
As a self-professed anti-feminist, I am always up for a debate on feminism. We don’t have to ban the word to know that it doesn’t define all women. Are feminists scared to discuss why the word might not be so popular anymore? I like what writer Daniel Greenfield had to say, “Feminism has become a lightweight movement heavy on pop culture and phony outrage and unbelievably light on content. It speaks all the time, but it no longer has anything to say.” I believe that was why TIME suggested it be a word in a list to ban and to promote a discussion but feminists made sure to close the door on that debate completely.
