Kenyan Police Tear-Gas School Kids

On Monday Kenyan Police tear-gassed school children during a protest to help save their playground. According to a human rights activist in Kenya, a powerful politician bought the land that the playground is on.

The playground had been bought to construct a parking lot for the politician’s hotel adjacent to the school.

According to the police spokesman Masoud Mwinyi the governor, the senator and other government officials are too afraid to stand up to this politician.

Acting police chief Samuel Arachi said he had suspended the police officer that was in charge at the scene of the protest.

But is suspension enough for this act? These were just children that ranged from ages six to 14 years old. Tear-gas is to be used in violent demonstrations not against children.
