President Obama publicly recognized transgender people in his State of the Union address, this is a historical step in our country history. Obama told The Huffington Post, “Its is about time for the American public to become aware of our stories and struggles both at home and around the globe.”
This is the first time in history that a President has ever mentioned gay rights in an inaugural address.
What does this mean for the LGBT community? Will they soon be able to marry legally in all states?
Last year Obama took several steps to help ban discrimination in particular transgender Americans. In July 2014 he signed an executive order making it illegal to fire or harass employees of the federal contractors based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.
