Apparently, Maine has discovered the secret for putting thousands of unemployed people back to work with the stroke of a pen. All it took was one little piece of legislation, and suddenly, 9,000 people are employed in a matter of 3 months. Genius!
The new rules prevent adults who are not disabled and do not have dependents from receiving food stamps for more than three months – unless they work at least 20 hours a week, participate in a work-training program or meet volunteering requirements.
It’s too easy to just take the handout. Now Maine is incentivizing people to do the right thing and support themselves.
