3rd Grade teacher’s lesson in respect for gay marriage does not end happily ever after

A 3rd grade teacher felt bad for a student who was being picked on. So he selected a book to read to the class that would help the kids learn to have respect for others. The book? “King and King.” And that’s when things went downhill…

More than one parent was upset by this reading selection which clearly advocated gay marriage to the students. They took it to the school board…. who did nothing… TWICE!

But this community was relentless, until finally, the teacher and the administrator who gave the teacher the book submitted their resignations. The pressure was too great.

Maybe this teacher should have taken his own lesson in “respecting others” and respected the parents’ rights to educate their children on certain topics… like marriage. I suspect we’ll be seeing more pushback on issues that overstep the boundaries of religious belief.

Yes, parents have a HUGE say in what happens at the local school district. Yes, YOU can affect a change.

It only takes a few voices speaking up. Will you be that voice in your community, when the need arises?
