After an all night manhunt for the suspect who killed Harris County Deputy Sheriff Darren Goforth, police descended on a home in Northwest Houston at 2:30 am after a tip came in. A red Ford Ranger, the same type of vehicle that Goforth’s killer was driving, was in the driveway. A man was taken in for questioning as a person of interest. On Saturday morning, ABC 13 Eyewitness News reports that a suspect is in custody, however no arrest has been made.
The mother of the individual who was being questioned claimed that her son was innocent. The unnamed woman told Eyewitness News, “My son is innocent. I was in the house with him, so when that happened my son was home.” However, police recovered two bags of evidence, including a weapon, during their search.
A press conference is scheduled to take place at 1 pm Central at 1200 Baker Street Media Room. Those wishing to attend need to produce a valid ID for entry.

Deputy Darren Goforth was ambushed and shot execution-style while in full uniform as he was filling his patrol car with gas. The suspect approached him from behind and shot him several times. After Goforth fell, the suspect reportedly stood over him and continued to fire rounds into him. Based upon surveillance video, it appears that the suspect is black.
A passerby, referred to only as Mackenzie, said, “We were driving on West Road and we heard the shots, and when I turned and looked, the lady was screaming over top of him. So we busted a U-turn into the parking lot and that’s when we saw what had happened.”
A memorial where Deputy Goforth was killed has been growing all morning.
