Nebraska university tells students not to say ‘crazy,’ ‘ghetto’ and other bad words – Watchdog.org
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has launched a campaign to get students to stop using certain words and phrases including “man up,” “no homo,” “retarded,” “ghetto,” “crazy” and “rape” (out of context).
They say it’s to start a conversation about the way words are used. I’m fine with “conversation.” But if what they’re really talking about is a word “ban” or “censorship”… that’s not OK. Words do have meaning. And if the college is actually teaching young people about the importance and meaning of REAL words as they are intended to be used, that’s great. But if, as so many universities are, they are redefining words or even making up new ones (ie: microaggression!), that’s not OK either.
