This school administrator decided he knew better than the parents and took it upon himself to enforce his politically correct ideas on students whose parents didn’t want it.
What did he do? He cancelled the school’s traditional Christmas concert in a school where 80% of the students are Christian. Why? So he didn’t offend Muslim students and families. Which would be fine, except, they weren’t offended. Muslim parents interviewed were as confused by the change as the Christian parents were upset. No one wanted it cancelled or changed.
One of the Muslim parents was quoted as saying:
“Who are us Muslims to say what can happen at an Italian school?” said Garofani parent Mahmoud El Kheir, who is originally from Egypt. “We are guests in this country. I hope the public understand that the decision was not made because of a request by Muslim parents.”
And another parent asked:
“Why create a problem that doesn’t exist?”
Even the Italian Prime Minister weighed in on it:
“Christmas is much more important than a headmaster being provocative. If he thinks he is promoting integration and coexistence in this way, he appears to me to have made a very big mistake. Debate and dialogue does not mean drowning identities in an indistinct and insipid form of political correctness.”
