After the election of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, The Social Network) wrote a letter to his wife and daughter that was published in Vanity Fair. In it, he excoriated Trump and his supporters, claiming, “The Klan won last night” and, calling Trump voters, “sexists, racists and buffoons.”
It was crass. It was angry. Mostly, it didn’t not capture the experience of many parents across the country.
It required, and requires, a response. And my children, who I have never mentioned in print until now, should know why their parents voted the way they did:
