A Universal Music Group employee is accusing his former workplace of being anti-gay and terminating him for standing up for abortion rights.

Until last Monday, Michael Lopez worked as a production coordinator at Universal Music Enterprises, according to the New York Post.

In a viral LinkedIn rant, Lopez explained the circumstances of his termination while slamming the company for not allowing him to properly mourn the Supreme Court’s recent decision to send authority concerning abortion bans back to the states.

“I’m a queer brown person and I was fired during Pride month for speaking up in defense of abortion rights at Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) (a subsidiary of Universal Music Group),” Lopez began.

Lopez then explained to his LinkedIn connections that part of his responsibility in his former role was to send a report to around 275 people every Friday.

After the overturn of Roe v. Wade was announced, Lopez decided that he did not feel right performing the task, and instead, emailed his fellow employees telling them he was mourning.

“I didn’t do them today,” Lopez said concerning the reports he was supposed to send.

“I’m in mourning due to the attack on people with uteruses in the US. Federally guaranteed access to abortion is gone,” he continued. “Vivendi and Universal Music Group must stop donating to anti-abortion, anti-queer and anti-trans politicians. Politicians like Marsha Blackburn, Ken Buck, Victoria Spartz, etc. Or expect more unproductive days,” he then signed off with, “Yours in fury, Michael Lopez.”

As a result, Lopez was fired the following Monday for not doing his job, disrupting his coworkers and poor judgement, according to the LinkedIn post.

After being fired, Lopez took it upon himself to email his coworkers explaining what happened.

“A brown queer person terminated during Pride month speaking in support of abortion rights. Seems like that’s exactly what America is all about right now,” he wrote.

The company responded to his comments and claimed to support “reproductive rights” and its female employees.
