“Let me just say, as a Southern Baptist I grew up reading the Bible,” the “Morning Joe” anchor began.
“Wow,” co-host Mika Brzezinski exclaimed.
“Maybe a backslidden Baptist but I still know the Bible,” Scarborough continued. “Jesus never once talked about abortion. Never once, and it was happening back in ancient times. It was happening during his time. Never once mentioned it, and for people perverting the gospel of Jesus Christ down to one issue, it’s heresy.”
For anyone angered by his comments, Scarborough encouraged them to read the Bible for themselves.
Delano Squires, a research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, said, “Jesus never used the words ‘child porn’ either, [Joe].”
He added, “Do you think that means Christians should be silent on the issue as well? This is a reminder that you shouldn’t take theological instruction from backslidden Baptists. The God of Psalm 139:13-16 isn’t into killing babies.”
The Federalist editor-in-chief, Mollie Hemingway, called Scarborough’s segment a “bizarre rant,” adding, “I know his moral decline is not news — not by a long shot — but very sad to see someone say something this blasphemous.”
