Tucker Carlson, the highest-rated cable news host in history, was abruptly taken off the air in late April. Now, new information reveals who made the final decision to cut ties with Carlson.
A report has revealed that Lachlan Murdoch, the chief executive of Fox Corporation, and Suzanne Scott, chief executive of Fox News Media, were behind it.
The power that Mr. Carlson wielded outside of Fox News could not shield him from a growing list of issues within the network related to his conduct on and off the air which had been grating on both Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch since they co-founded the network in 1996.
The host is now seen as a polarizing figure due to being exposed as part of a defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems as a bully who denigrated colleagues and sources often using profane and sexist language while calling for firing those whose coverage he disliked.
He also drew condemnation from both sides of the political spectrum for his role in perpetuating an altered version of what happened during the Capitol attack last January 6th 2021.
Since leaving FOX News he has kept busy planning to interview several 2024 Republican presidential candidates next week in Iowa at FAMiLY Leadership Summit where he will be interviewing former Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, ex-South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (who is running against her old boss Donald Trump), former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, former Vice President Mike Pence, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott among others from 8 am through 5 pm at Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines.
Fox News announced its brand new prime-time lineup last week revealing who would be taking over Tucker Carlson’s old time slot:
Jesse Watters will be replacing him at 8 PM; Laura Ingraham will move up one hour from 10 PM to 7 PM; Sean Hannity will stay at 9 PM; Greg Gutfeld will move up one hour from 11 PM to 10 PM;
Trace Gallagher moving up two hours from 11PM to 9PM slot. Watters joined Fox News two decades ago starting out as a production assistant before becoming an on-air commentator on Bill O’Reilly’s show eventually becoming one of their most watched personalities when he became co-host on The Five and then solo host of his own program Watters’ World which aired at 7PM since 2022 making this year’s reshuffle even bigger.
Greg Gutfeld is moving up one hour earlier than usual resulting in some significant changes in viewership ratings compared to the Carlson era during his seven years hosting Tucker Carlson Tonight where he rose to become a controversial but popular host across many networks despite drawing much public criticism over his tenure there for various reasons.
During the airing of the 2020 election Fox Network was hit with lawsuits over their coverage, eventually settling with a $787 million dollar agreement with Dominion Voting Systems.
Despite being fired by Fox News, Carlson continues to post short monologues via Twitter which Fox claims violates their contract leading them to send him cease -and -desist letter but so far refusing it arguing that they are violating their contract with him instead.
