Trump Advisor Peter Navarro Likely To Be Sent to Prison During Appeal Process

In September, Dr. Peter Navarro, a former advisor to Donald Trump, was found guilty of criminal contempt of Congress for his refusal to comply with a subpoena during Liz Cheney’s investigation into the events of January 6th.

Navarro chose not to comply with the subpoena because he claimed that Trump had instructed him to assert executive privilege.

A jury in Washington D.C., which was perceived as partisan by some, had previously convicted Navarro on two counts of contempt after only four hours of deliberation.

The Department of Justice under President Biden recommended a prison term of six months for Navarro due to allegations of corruption.

However, Judge Amit Mehta, who was appointed by Obama, ultimately sentenced Navarro to four months in prison and imposed a fine of $9,500.

Judge Amit Mehta prohibited Navarro from using the executive privilege argument after Department of Justice prosecutors accused him of evading accountability by relying on executive privilege claims.

After Obama-appointed Judge Mehta handed down the sentence, Navarro’s legal team promptly filed an appeal challenging his conviction on two counts of criminal contempt of Congress on Thursday.

The fact that 74-year-old Peter Navarro will be sent to prison by the Biden administration during his appeal process was not widely reported.

It is expected that by the time his appeal is heard in court, he will have already served his four-month prison sentence.

There is a possibility that Peter may win his appeal after completing his prison term.

Typically, there are only two justifications for sending a defendant to prison while awaiting an appeal. One reason is if there is a risk of the defendant fleeing, but it has been acknowledged by the court that Peter Navarro does not pose such a risk.

The other reason is when it appears unlikely that the defendant will succeed on appeal due to lack of constitutional issues. However, this does not apply to Peter’s case.

This is complete lawlessness by the Biden regime.
