During the 2024 Olympics ceremony, the Paris Olympic organizers permitted a rendition of The Last Supper featuring drag queens.
The controversial opening ceremony showcased scantily clad drag queens standing behind a lengthy table, seemingly mocking the sacred Christian image.
To add to the controversy, a young child was also seen standing alongside the performers.
Following this, ESPN has reported that the Olympic committee is working to mitigate the repercussions of this decision.
Paris 2024 spokesperson Anne Descamps apologized on Sunday morning, stating that they regret any offense caused by the performance while emphasizing their intention to celebrate “community tolerance.”
“Clearly, there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. It (The opening ceremony) tried to celebrate community tolerance,” Descamps claimed during a news conference.
“We believe this ambition was achieved,” she added. “If people have taken any offense, we are really sorry.”
Christians around the world are outraged that their faith was disrespected at an event meant to promote unity.
According to The Daily Mail, thousands of Olympic fans have pledged not to watch the event.
The hashtags #boycottOlympics and #boycottParis2024 have been trending globally since Saturday and continue into Sunday.
This comes after one of the largest telecommunications providers in the United States pulled their ads in response to the offensive performance.
