Former Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle, who resigned after the unsuccessful assassination attempt on ex-President Donald Trump, is set to receive a significant security detail due to continuing threats against her.
According to the Washington Examiner:
Cheatle, who resigned on July 23 amid intense scrutiny from the House Oversight Committee, will receive protection from the Secret Service’s Dignitary Protection Division.
This department is usually responsible for ensuring the safety of foreign dignitaries when they visit the White House and providing security for lower-profile Cabinet officials.
The choice to offer protection to Cheatle is a reaction to various threats, such as death threats and recent confrontations with individuals who posed a threat, according to RealClearPolitics.
LOOK:
Joe Biden, having a prior relationship with Cheatle from her time on his vice presidential security detail, authorized additional protection for her.
This marks the first known occasion where the Secret Service has extended its resources to safeguard a former leader of the agency.
Furthermore, following his formal request for Secret Service coverage during his campaign, third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received protection soon after the attempted assassination of Trump.
