Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R) became the target of a serious shooting threat just hours after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Luna, a vocal supporter of Trump, revealed that her office received the threat and urged the public to pray for her safety.
The 35-year-old Congresswoman attributed the threat to the divisive rhetoric from the left, particularly aimed at Trump and his supporters.
“This division and hate campaign against Republicans is going to get someone killed,” Luna warned. She remained defiant in the face of the threat, stating, “I will not be threatened, intimidated, or bow down to those using violence as a means to push their agenda. We will win.”
According to Luna, the shooting threat occurred just hours after a gunman attempted to assassinate Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
St. Petersburg Police confirmed that a threatening email was sent to St. Petersburg College on Sunday, containing information related to Luna, although it did not directly mention her name.
The local authorities forwarded the details of the threat to Capitol Police for further investigation.
This is not the first time Luna has faced threats. Over the previous weekend, police had been dispatched to her neighborhood after a concerning comment was posted on Facebook.
The comment, which appeared on the campaign page of her Democratic opponent Whitney Fox, suggested the poster knew where Luna lived and invited others to “send her a love letter or…something.”
While the individual responsible for the comment was a neighbor of Luna’s and was deemed not an active threat, police increased patrols as a precaution.
Luna has blamed Fox’s rhetoric for the growing number of threats against her and her family.
“It’s not fun,” Luna told the Florida Phoenix. “My husband’s obviously concerned. I have a child. The fact is that I don’t think this rhetoric — it’s going to get someone killed.”
Whitney Fox, who has previously referred to Luna as a threat to democracy, issued a statement condemning political violence while dismissing Luna’s accusations.
Fox denied any responsibility for the threats, calling them “false accusations” from Luna.
Meanwhile, former President Trump survived a second assassination attempt on Sunday at his West Palm Beach golf course, following a previous incident in July at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was injured by a shooter.
Despite these two recent attempts on Trump’s life, some Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, have continued to use harsh rhetoric, framing Trump as a grave threat to democracy and the nation.
