Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) once again showcased his ability to navigate media scrutiny, skillfully deflecting distractions to keep the conversation focused on the issues that resonate with American voters.
During a recent interaction with reporters, Vance was pressed about a controversy surrounding North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, who is running for governor.
Instead of getting sidetracked, Vance quickly redirected attention back to the key concerns of his campaign.
JD Vance (R-Ohio) made a campaign stop at Generation Church Mesa Campus on Sept. 4, 2024.
The visit stirred controversy when Kamala Harris’ campaign posted a video on X (formerly Twitter), showing Vance walking away from reporters asking him about North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson.
The post implied Vance was avoiding the questions by “rushing into another room.”
Vance quickly addressed the situation on social media, explaining that he was heading to a doctor’s appointment because he wasn’t feeling well.
"Rushes into other room"
I was *walking* to the doctor (because one of my kids gave me the plague)
My comment on Mark Robinson is that Kamala Harris cast the deciding vote on the Inflation Explosion Act and because of that a lot of Americans can't afford groceries https://t.co/jYyHAhIGEa

Rather than let the media control the narrative, Vance shifted focus to Vice President Kamala Harris’ record, particularly her role in passing what he referred to as the “Inflation Explosion Act,” formally known as the Inflation Reduction Act.
He criticized the legislation, attributing it to the financial struggles many Americans are facing.
“My comment on Mark Robinson is that Kamala Harris cast the deciding vote on the Inflation Explosion Act, and because of that, a lot of Americans can’t afford groceries,” Vance posted.
The controversy around Robinson stems from allegations about controversial comments he allegedly posted over a decade ago. Despite media scrutiny, Robinson has denied the accusations and remains in the race for North Carolina governor.
The press used the issue to question Vance, but he stayed focused on what he called the more pressing concern—Harris’ economic policies.
Vance’s response highlighted his strategy of steering the conversation back to issues he views as more critical, such as inflation and economic hardship, instead of being sidetracked by media-driven controversies.
He emphasized that voters are more concerned with everyday challenges like affording groceries than with past comments on a message board.
This wasn’t an isolated incident for Vance. Throughout his campaign, he has consistently redirected attention to what he considers the Biden-Harris administration’s failures, including on the economy, healthcare, immigration, and crime.

His approach underscores his belief that media outlets often focus on distractions when more important issues, like inflation, are affecting Americans.
By focusing on the economic struggles of ordinary citizens and pointing to Harris’ record, Vance demonstrated a model of how Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, could navigate media scrutiny as the 2024 election approaches.
Vance’s ability to stay composed and refocus the conversation on key issues reflects a broader conservative strategy of holding the administration accountable, rather than engaging in media-fueled distractions.
