Kamala Harris Photographed with Iranian Regime-Linked Imam

In a development raising significant concerns, Vice President Kamala Harris has been photographed mingling with Mohammad Ali Elahi, a prominent figure linked to Iran’s hardline regime and known for supporting terrorist organizations. This encounter, which took place in July 2021, has sparked outrage and deepened scrutiny over the Biden administration’s foreign policy ties with Iran.

The revelation was first reported by The New York Post, which exposed that Harris had a friendly encounter with Elahi during a vaccination event at the TCF Center in Detroit. What makes this particularly alarming is that Elahi is not just any religious leader—he has deep and concerning connections to Iran’s political and ideological apparatus. Elahi once served as the head of the Iranian Navy’s political-ideological office during the 1980s and has since maintained close ties with Iran’s ruling clerics.

His relationships with past Iranian leaders include high-profile figures such as former Presidents Ali Akbar Rafsanjani, Mohammad Khatami, and Hassan Rouhani. Elahi has also openly supported deceased Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, notorious for his role in mass executions, and has posted images of himself with these individuals on social media platforms.

What has raised even more alarms is Elahi’s role within the Ahl Al-Bayt World Assembly, an organization founded in 1994 by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The organization aims to extend Iran’s influence globally through academic institutions, civil rights organizations, charities, and welfare programs. The group’s reach reportedly spans over 90 countries, making it a powerful arm of Iran’s global influence campaign. By associating with such an individual, Harris has become embroiled in a controversy over potential indirect support for the Iranian regime.

Elahi’s ties to extremist ideologies don’t stop there. He has publicly praised the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran and one of the most oppressive figures in modern Middle Eastern history. Elahi has also expressed fervent admiration for Hezbollah, an Islamist militant group widely recognized as a terrorist organization.

In one notable statement, Elahi pledged his willingness to sacrifice his life for the cause, stating, “If my blood would help the liberation of Lebanon, I would give my blood to liberate Lebanon.”

Despite these dangerous connections, Harris appeared at ease during her encounter with Elahi, even posing for a photograph with him. Elahi’s nonprofit organization, the Islamic House of Wisdom, based in Dearborn, Michigan, quickly seized the opportunity to publicize the event.

The organization posted images of Elahi with Harris on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the imam’s participation in the event, which was also attended by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and other political leaders.

According to the Islamic House of Wisdom’s social media accounts, Elahi had spoken to Harris, praising her administration’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and promote vaccination.

Harris, in turn, expressed her gratitude to Elahi and his organization for their role in supporting the administration’s health initiatives. The event was supposed to culminate in Harris visiting Elahi’s Islamic House of Wisdom, but the visit was canceled due to a flood.

The encounter with Elahi has only intensified concerns about the Biden administration’s approach to Iran, especially in the context of its efforts to re-engage diplomatically with the Iranian government. Many critics view Iran as a primary destabilizing force in the Middle East, supporting terrorism and undermining U.S. interests. Yet, as Jim Hanson, chief editor of the Middle East Forum, emphasized, Democratic politicians seem to downplay this threat.

In his comments to The New York Post, Hanson condemned Harris and other Democratic leaders for their interactions with figures like Elahi. “Democrats hold a dangerously mistaken notion that Iran is part of the solution — not the main problem in the Middle East. This leads them to outreach here in the U.S. with Muslims tied to that tyrannical theocracy like Mohammad Ali Elahi,” Hanson said. He further criticized the Obama, Biden, and Harris administrations for enabling and even funding Iran’s global influence efforts.

The controversy surrounding Harris’ interaction with Elahi underscores broader concerns about the U.S. government’s stance toward Iran. The Biden administration has been pushing to restore the Iran nuclear deal, a move that many critics argue will only embolden Iran’s regime and its global ambitions. With Harris now linked to a key Iranian operative through this photo-op, the political fallout could be substantial.

As the 2024 election cycle approaches, this latest scandal adds fuel to the fire of criticism surrounding the current administration’s handling of foreign policy, particularly in relation to adversaries like Iran. While Harris may not have directly endorsed Elahi’s views, her association with such a controversial figure raises serious questions about the judgment and oversight within the administration.
