Tom Homan Reminds AOC of Past ‘Education’ on Border Law Amid Public Dispute

Border czar Tom Homan shared his thoughts on Fox News about a recent clash with Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. This exchange came after she suggested he should “learn to read” the Constitution, sparking controversy. Homan, known for his firm stance on immigration, highlighted this debate during an appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.”

Homan recounted an earlier encounter in 2019 when he had to correct Ocasio-Cortez during a congressional hearing. The topic centered on family separation policies at the border, where Homan clarified that these laws align with U.S. regulations. He emphasized that entering the country illegally is a crime, a point he feels Ocasio-Cortez fails to grasp.

According to Homan, “I forgot more about the Constitution and immigration enforcement than she’ll ever know.” He urged Ocasio-Cortez to study Title VIII, United States Code 1324 and 25, which outline the illegality of unauthorized entry. He accused her of teaching migrants how to evade law enforcement rather than understanding their rights.

During a heated exchange, Homan pointed out that harboring and concealing illegal immigrants is a felony. He criticized Ocasio-Cortez for allegedly encouraging these practices under the guise of education. Homan argued that such actions undermine law enforcement efforts and compromise public safety.

In a July 2019 congressional hearing, Ocasio-Cortez attempted to label Homan as the author of a “family separation policy” memo. Homan swiftly corrected her, stating he did not write the policy and reminded her of the legal processes involved. He highlighted that U.S. citizens also face separation from their children upon arrest.

Homan expressed concern over Ocasio-Cortez’s influence on illegal migrants, suggesting she might inadvertently aid those with criminal intent. He referenced the murder of a young college student in Georgia, suggesting that her advice could have dire consequences. Homan warned about the risks of teaching migrants to avoid law enforcement.

“We’re looking for public safety threats, national security threats,” Homan continued. He criticized Ocasio-Cortez for advising those with significant criminal records on how to avoid ICE. Homan underscored that the focus should be on enforcing the law and protecting American citizens.

Ocasio-Cortez hosted a virtual event titled “Know Your Rights With ICE” on her Facebook page. During this session, she advised illegal migrants on handling encounters with ICE officers. Homan condemned this initiative, questioning its legality and potential impact on ICE operations.

Homan stated he is collaborating with the Department of Justice to assess Ocasio-Cortez’s actions. He suggested her guidance might cross legal boundaries, potentially impeding ICE duties. Despite his warnings, Ocasio-Cortez dismissed his concerns with a mocking tone on social media.

The DOJ’s potential response to Ocasio-Cortez’s Facebook event remains uncertain. Homan has requested a legal opinion on whether her actions constitute an impediment to law enforcement. His efforts aim to ensure that immigration laws are upheld without interference.

The Daily Caller News Foundation, known for its conservative perspective, reported on this ongoing dispute. They emphasize the importance of adhering to immigration laws and the potential risks of opposing enforcement. The foundation’s coverage reflects a broader conservative narrative on the issue.

Fox News and other conservative outlets have also highlighted this clash between Homan and Ocasio-Cortez. These platforms echo Homan’s concerns about the implications of undermining immigration enforcement. The debate continues to resonate with audiences who favor strict border controls.

In the political arena, figures like Homan and Ocasio-Cortez represent opposing viewpoints. Homan’s stance aligns with conservative values, advocating for law and order. Ocasio-Cortez, on the other hand, champions a more progressive approach to immigration.

The ongoing dialogue between Homan and Ocasio-Cortez illustrates a broader national debate on immigration policy. As public figures, both have significant influence over public opinion and policy direction. Their exchanges underscore the complexity and divisiveness of immigration issues in America.

This clash highlights the challenges faced by those enforcing immigration laws. Homan’s firm position reflects a dedication to upholding these laws against political opposition. His statements resonate with those who prioritize national security and public safety.

As the discussion unfolds, the tension between enforcement and advocacy continues to shape the immigration debate. Homan’s efforts to reinforce legal boundaries contrast sharply with Ocasio-Cortez’s advocacy for immigrant rights. Their differing perspectives fuel a contentious dialogue on the nation’s immigration policies.
