Trump Administration Cuts $620K from Controversial Research Project on Tran$gender Teens

The National Institutes of Health recently halted a questionable Biden-era grant, which was worth $620,288. This grant was intended to explore pregnancy prevention for biological females identifying as transgender boys. Essentially, taxpayer money was being used for a project that targeted a tiny segment of the population while still securing federal funding.

Officials confirmed that all $620K was retained after the Department of Government Efficiency flagged the grant. The Trump administration acted swiftly to terminate the funding. Elon Musk even called this financial news “terrifying,” highlighting the absurdity of the situation.

The grant was initially awarded to the Center for Innovative Public Health Research, a nonprofit deeply rooted in progressive ideals under the guise of public health advocacy.

The project’s aim was to adapt an existing pregnancy prevention program, known as Girl2Girl, to include “transgender boys.” This involved modifying a program designed for teen girls to cater to biological females who no longer identify as girls but can still become pregnant.

A look at the grant proposal reveals its claims that “youth who are assigned female at birth (AFAB) and identify as transgender … not as girls, are at risk for negative sexual health outcomes yet are effectively excluded from sexual health programs.”

In simpler terms, because these teens don’t identify as girls, the proposal suggests ignoring biology while still funding studies on their pregnancy risks.

The researchers aimed to explore condom use, unprotected sex, HIV testing, and the use of PrEP pills, raising questions about federal health priorities.

According to the CDC, around 3.3% of high school students in 2023 identified as transgender, with about 1 million transgender-identifying individuals in the US.

The number of transgender men giving birth is unknown, although a University of Michigan study recorded 1,907 births from 2014 to 2018, averaging about 500 per year.

GovernmentSpending.gov noted that the nonprofit had received $1.3 million in federal grants over time, with the $620K labeled a “continuation” under Biden’s administration last June.

Thanks to vigilant oversight, this continuation was abruptly stopped. This isn’t the only instance of cutting unnecessary spending.

The Department of Health and Human Services also cut $1.34 million from Boston Children’s Hospital’s “TransHealthGUIDE,” $222,977 from a University of Miami program on “microaggressions” against black women with HIV, and $573,588 from the University of Michigan for HIV prevention research in transgender populations.

It seems like common sense is making a comeback in federal funding decisions. Conservatives have long argued against wasting money on projects that attempt to defy biological realities. It’s crucial to focus resources on initiatives that align with the nation’s core values and priorities.
