Trump Proposes $5M Deal for Foreigners to Buy American Residency, Calling It a ‘Bargain’

President Donald Trump has unveiled an intriguing plan to offer U.S. residency to foreign nationals who can shell out millions of dollars. “You have a green card. This is a gold card,” Trump declared while signing executive orders on Tuesday. “We’re going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million, and that’s going to give you green card privileges plus.”

Trump believes this gold card initiative will attract wealthy migrants who will not only pay a hefty sum upfront but also contribute to the economy by spending, paying taxes, and providing jobs to locals. He also hinted that American companies might purchase these gold cards for foreign talent. Trump suggested that over a million well-vetted individuals might jump at this opportunity, potentially raking in a staggering $5 trillion from gold card sales alone.

During a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Trump expressed confidence in the program’s appeal, saying, “I happen to think it’s going to sell like crazy. It’s a bargain.” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick pointed out that the gold card initiative would be a significant upgrade from the existing EB-5 investment visa program. He criticized the EB-5 as being “full of nonsense, make-believe, and fraud,” calling it a low-priced ticket to a green card.

Under the EB-5 program, foreign investors could apply for permanent residence if they invested at least $1.05 million in a U.S. commercial enterprise and created or maintained 10 full-time jobs for American workers. “The president said, ‘Rather than having this sort of ridiculous EB-5 program, we’re going to end the EB-5 program,’” Lutnick noted. “‘We’re going to replace it with the Trump gold card.’”

Both Lutnick and Trump are optimistic that this new initiative will also help reduce the national deficit. When Trump mentioned that applicants from any country could apply, a reporter questioned whether Russian oligarchs would qualify. Trump responded with openness but noted that they might not be “quite as wealthy as they used to be.”

Even though Trump insists he has the authority to replace the EB-5 visa program with his own, Forbes pointed out that Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution gives Congress the power to regulate immigration. This suggests that Trump’s plan might face legal hurdles, despite Republicans controlling both chambers of Congress.

Many countries worldwide have similar programs that allow individuals to gain residency through investment. According to London-based consultancy Henley & Partners, nations like Canada, the United Kingdom, and over 60% of EU member states offer such golden visa programs.

Supporters of Trump believe this plan is a smart way to attract wealth and talent to America while also addressing financial challenges. Critics, however, might argue that this plan prioritizes the rich and overlooks other deserving immigrants. Nonetheless, the gold card initiative is an ambitious move that aims to reshape how America attracts foreign investors.

This plan could potentially open doors for individuals who can contribute significantly to the U.S. economy. The program’s success will largely depend on its ability to navigate the legal challenges it may face. With Trump’s track record of pushing bold initiatives, many are watching closely to see how this unfolds.

While the gold card program has its share of advocates, it will certainly spark debate among policymakers and the public. Some see it as an innovative approach to immigration, while others view it as a controversial step. Ultimately, only time will tell how Trump’s plan will impact the country’s immigration landscape.

It’s clear that the Trump administration is not afraid to shake things up with bold new ideas. Whether this gold card initiative will become a reality remains to be seen. If implemented successfully, it could serve as a model for other countries looking to attract wealthy investors.

For now, the gold card plan is in its early stages, and its future depends on overcoming potential legal and political obstacles. As discussions continue, many Americans are eager to see how this proposal will play out. The administration’s willingness to explore new avenues in immigration policy reflects a desire to prioritize economic growth and national prosperity.

The gold card initiative is just one of many strategies the Trump administration is considering to boost the U.S. economy. With a focus on attracting investment and talent, this plan could have far-reaching effects. As the conversation around the gold card program evolves, it will be important to consider its long-term implications.

The debate over this program will likely highlight differing views on immigration and economic policy. Supporters argue that it aligns with America’s entrepreneurial spirit and tradition of welcoming those who contribute to society. Critics, on the other hand, may question its fairness and potential impact on existing immigration systems.

Ultimately, the success of the gold card initiative will depend on its ability to balance economic benefits with ethical considerations. As the Trump administration continues to promote the program, it will be crucial to address any concerns and ensure a fair and transparent process. This bold proposal has the potential to reshape America’s approach to immigration and investment for years to come.

The conversation surrounding the gold card program will undoubtedly include a range of perspectives and opinions. As the U.S. navigates this new territory, the administration will need to engage with stakeholders and the public to build consensus. The outcome of this initiative will have significant implications for the country’s future immigration policy.

As the plan moves forward, it will be important to monitor its progress and assess its impact on both the economy and society. The gold card initiative represents a bold step in redefining how the U.S. approaches immigration and investment. In the coming months, the nation will watch closely to see how this ambitious proposal unfolds.
