A terror attack targeting an ICE facility in Texas has led to serious charges for members of an Antifa group. On the Fourth of July, a Texas officer was injured in a shooting outside the North Texas ICE facility in Alvarado, near Fort Worth. Federal prosecutors have now detailed the involvement of the suspects in this violent incident.
Authorities discovered a flag with the phrase, “Resist Fascism. Fight Oligarchy,” along with gear like masks, goggles, gloves, weapons, fireworks, and body armor. In total, eleven individuals were arrested, and ten face charges of attempted murder against a federal officer. The eleventh person is being charged with obstructing justice.
Prosecutors described the attack as a “coordinated” effort involving 10 to 12 individuals dressed in black, military-style clothing. The attack began around 10:30 p.m. when the group fired fireworks and vandalized vehicles to draw officers out. Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson emphasized, “Make no mistake — this was not a so-called peaceful protest. It was indeed an ambush.”
Two unarmed officers approached the group, and an Alvarado Police Department officer responded as well. Unfortunately, the officer was shot in the neck by someone hiding in the woods. Another person fired numerous rounds at the ICE officers, estimated between 20 and 30 shots.
After the attack, the group hastily fled but were soon captured by law enforcement. Officers recovered firearms and a Kevlar vest from the scene. A jammed AR-style firearm was among the items seized as evidence.
The officer who was shot is expected to recover, which is a relief given the circumstances. If convicted, the suspects could face up to 10 years in prison, highlighting the severity of the charges. “This was an egregious attack on federal and local law enforcement officers, and it is part of an increasing trend of violence against them,” stated Larson. “This will not be tolerated.” She emphasized that those who resort to violence against officers will be pursued and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
