Car Slams Into White House Barricade
A man was arrested late Tuesday night after he drove his vehicle into a White House barricade, according to law enforcement on the scene. The Secret Service said there was no lingering threat once the driver was taken into custody. Officials moved quickly to secure the area and evaluate the vehicle for hazards.
“On Tuesday, October 21 at approximately 10:37 p.m., an individual drove his vehicle into the Secret Service vehicle gate located at 17th and E St, NW, DC,” a Secret Service spokesperson said. “The individual was immediately arrested by U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division officers, and the vehicle was assessed by Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department and deemed safe,”
The vehicle was identified as a 2010 Acura TSX with Maryland license plates.
President Trump was in the White House when the crash occurred, but the building was not placed on lockdown. The road leading to the security gate where the crash happened remained closed until authorities could remove the vehicle. Commuters and nearby staff reported seeing a heavy law enforcement presence while the scene was processed.

U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division officers arrested the driver at the gate, then coordinated with the Metropolitan Police Department to check the car. Both agencies concluded the vehicle did not pose an ongoing danger after inspection. That quick, coordinated response prevented wider disruption around the executive complex.
Investigators did not immediately release details on motive or charges, and the driver remained in custody pending further processing. No injuries were reported publicly and no property damage beyond the gate was noted in initial accounts. Officials are reviewing footage and witness statements to build a clear timeline of the incident.
Incidents like this put a spotlight on how protective agencies handle sudden security events at national landmarks. The rapid arrest and vehicle assessment reflect layers of training and protocol that respond to threats in real time. A tough, well-resourced security posture around the White House remains essential to prevent escalation.
Local traffic was rerouted and the gate area stayed closed while technicians examined the barrier and arranged a tow. Once the vehicle was cleared and the scene secured, normal operations resumed for the surrounding streets. That process kept risk isolated and allowed teams to restore access safely.
Federal and local agencies will share information as the investigation continues, and prosecutors will determine charges based on the evidence. Anyone with information or footage from the area during the late-evening hours may be contacted by authorities. The public should expect routine updates as the case proceeds through standard channels.
