Abigail Spanberger Wants to Spend $15 Million on Virginia ‘DEI Czar’
Abigail Spanberger says her campaign is about saving Virginia families money and prioritizing households. Her messaging focuses on everyday costs and economic concerns rather than expanding government bureaucracy. Voters should weigh those promises against her proposals.
At least that’s what she says. What she does, on the other hand, is completely different.
We’ve got just three weeks until Election Day, and Abigail Spanberger is ready to stand up for Virginia workers, lower costs, and fund our public schools.

Now Spanberger is proposing a $15 million price tag for a cabinet-level DEI chief and staff paid for by Virginia taxpayers, a move her critics call an unnecessary expansion of state power. That number would fund new layers of administration and monitoring inside state government instead of cutting costs for families. Expect arguments about fairness, priorities, and who decides what counts as inclusion.
Spanberger noted the position, a cabinet-level one, started with former Governor Ralph Northam. “What it meant in that administration,” Spanberger said, “is that there was someone who was bringing a lens of intentionality and inclusivity. How do we view history here in Virginia, and what are some of the laws that may still be on the books that reflect a different era?”
“If you don’t have someone looking at them,” Spanberger continued, “with that level of intentionality, maybe we want to take them off the books.”
Her language about reviewing laws that “reflect a different era” raises real questions about who interprets history and how sweeping those reviews will be. Conservatives worry this can be a backdoor to rewriting long-standing policies based on a shifting cultural litmus test. The Constitution and longstanding laws are hardly neutral fodder for bureaucratic reinterpretation.
Spanberger’s plan would include roughly a dozen staff and a budget exceeding $2.2 million through at least 2028, according to details that have surfaced. Those figures suggest the $15 million estimate covers multiple years and operational costs, but specifics on scope and accountability remain vague. Taxpayers deserve clear numbers and safeguards before approving a standing office with that kind of heft.
Democrats often pick and choose which historical practices to challenge, applying the “different era” line when it suits a political goal. That selective approach makes it hard to trust a permanent bureaucracy tasked with policing ideology across all agencies. The proposal reads like a cultural task force given fiscal backing and steady staffing.
Creating another cabinet post with dedicated personnel shifts decision-making from elected officials to appointed czars and staffers who answer to political priorities. For a party that claims to care about working families, dedicating millions to a DEI apparatus instead of lowering taxes or cutting red tape looks out of touch. Voters should demand a clear plan that ties any new office to measurable improvements for citizens, not just abstract cultural aims.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
