Swift Arrest, Man Charged With 11 Counts After Train Attack

A fast-moving incident in Cambridgeshire left multiple people injured and a 32-year-old man held on serious charges after police say he carried out a stabbing on a high-speed train. Authorities arrested the main suspect quickly, treated several victims, and said there is no current evidence linking the attacks to terrorism while investigations continue.

A 32-year-old man from Peterborough has been remanded in custody after being charged with 11 counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm, and one count of possessing a bladed weapon. The charges come after a mass stabbing on a high-speed train in Cambridgeshire on Saturday that injured 10 people and a separate attack on London’s public transport that left another person wounded. Police named Anthony Williams in connection with the incidents as they work to piece together motive and sequence of events.

Armed officers stopped the train and carried out arrests after it made an emergency stop at Huntingdon Station, and officials said the primary suspect was taken into custody within eight minutes of the initial emergency call. Two people were detained in the immediate operation as teams secured the scene and treated victims on site. Hospitals in the area received several patients for injuries ranging from minor to serious, and emergency responders were praised for a rapid, coordinated reaction.

Police have been clear that, at this stage, they do not have evidence tying the attacks to terrorism, but they kept Counter Terrorism teams involved as a precaution while investigators probe motives and connections. “This has been declared a major incident and Counter Terrorism Policing are supporting our investigation whilst we work to establish the full circumstances and motivation for this incident,” the British Transport Police said in a statement. That approach reflects the need to cover every angle while keeping the public informed.

The British Prime Minister wrote in a statement posted to X, “The appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is deeply concerning. My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police.” Local leaders echoed calls for calm and vigilance as investigators interviewed witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage from the train and stations.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as passengers scrambled to get to safety and medical staff worked to help the wounded. Transport services were disrupted while lines and stations were checked and reopened, and rail operators co-operated with police as searches and inquiries continued. Officials emphasized the importance of following police guidance and avoiding the area while investigations and clean-up were underway.

The day before the train attack, the suspect reportedly threatened people inside a barbershop with a large knife and had earlier stabbed a 14-year-old nearby. The teenager was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. Those earlier incidents prompted local concern and factored into the broader police inquiry into the suspect’s recent activity and whereabouts.

Detectives said they were working through a growing pile of evidence, from forensic material to witness statements and video, to establish timeline and motive. Families of those injured were contacted and offered support, and police set up a liaison to keep relatives informed while the criminal case progresses. The court remand means the suspect will face further hearings while prosecutors prepare for trial.

Local communities in and around Huntingdon expressed shock, and civic leaders urged residents to remain alert without spreading unverified details. Investigators asked anyone with information or footage to come forward to help fill gaps in the timeline and strengthen the case. Public safety messages focused on practical steps people can take if they encounter a violent incident, including contacting emergency services and keeping a safe distance.
