Trump Orders Congress To Investigate Nigeria Christian Killings

President Donald Trump has asked Congress to investigate the mass killings of Christians in Nigeria, calling the violence an existential threat to the faith there and urging immediate oversight from House appropriations leaders. His statement names radical Islamist actors and seeks to label Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” while several public figures and lawmakers have responded in support. This article lays out the request, reactions from politicians and public figures, and the broader call for accountability and action.

Trump formally told lawmakers he wants a full look into the attacks that have targeted Christian communities across Nigeria, framing the violence as part of a wider pattern of religious persecution. He pointed to alarming numbers and urged Congress to act through the appropriate committees to investigate who is responsible and what the United States can do. Republicans in Washington have rallied behind the request, saying this kind of brutality demands attention from Capitol Hill. The goal, supporters say, is to spotlight victims and pressure global institutions to respond.

“Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN” — But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done! I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me. The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!”

Tulsi Gabbard, U.S. Director of National Intelligence, welcomed the news. Many Republicans framed her response as a welcome signal that national security officials are paying attention to religious violence abroad. They argue intelligence oversight can uncover whether extremist groups are coordinating attacks or receiving outside support. The push is for more than words; it is for concrete congressional inquiries into patterns, funding, and foreign ties.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the killings were tragic and demanded accountability from both local and international actors who can influence security on the ground. Officials pointed to longstanding problems with insurgent groups, banditry, and terror networks that exploit weak governance. At the same time, public voices have drawn attention to religious freedom as a central American value that deserves defense. That framing turns a humanitarian issue into a policy priority for those pushing for decisive action.

Rapper Nicki Minaj thanks Trump for highlighting the religious persecution. She posted on social media her gratefulness for the freedom of religion embedded in the First Amendment. Her reaction underscored how this issue has cut across different audiences, drawing in entertainers and influencers to spotlight persecution. Public attention like hers helps raise the profile of victims who otherwise go unheard.

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-SC, claimed that Nigeria is the most dangerous place worldwide for Christians. Lawmakers sympathetic to the call for investigation say such characterizations reflect real risk and merit sustained diplomatic and humanitarian responses. Congressional Republicans argue that designations and sanctions, paired with aid and security cooperation, can pressure local authorities to protect vulnerable communities. The debate now centers on the mix of policies that will most effectively prevent further bloodshed.

Beyond political statements, advocates want evidence collected on the scope and sources of violence, including whether international extremist networks are involved. Supporters of the investigation say it should examine local governance failures, militia activity, and any cross-border dynamics that enable attacks. They also want Congress to consider targeted measures to support survivors, secure places of worship, and push local governments toward accountability. The underlying message from Republicans pushing the probe is straightforward: names, numbers, and causes deserve scrutiny now rather than later.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
