CIA Arms Kurdish Militias, Ground Campaign Against Iran Looms

This article reports that the Central Intelligence Agency has begun arming Kurdish militias inside Iran, with thousands of fighters and a planned ground campaign supported by U.S. and Israeli air power as Operation Epic Fury proceeds into its fourth day.

The Central Intelligence Agency has reportedly started supplying weapons and equipment to Kurdish militias inside Iran as part of an effort to mobilize irregular forces against the ruling Islamic regime. Officials and regional observers describe a coordinated push to train and arm local units so they can seize and hold ground when the moment comes. Operation Epic Fury is now in its fourth day, and planners appear to be shifting toward a ground dimension after weeks of air and limited strikes.

A large quantity of weapons was smuggled into Iran and dispersed to Kurdish groups in the wake of a 12-day conflict in 2025, and those arms appear to be staged for fast distribution. Local commanders and expatriate Kurdish leadership now say thousands of militiamen are poised to move and are expected to launch their uprising “within days” with the backing of American and Israeli air superiority. ITV News has reported these movements and the scale of resupply that set the conditions for a coordinated ground push.

Iran appears to have anticipated some level of insurrection, responding with strikes against Kurdish regions inside its borders and conducting operations across the frontier in Iraq. Those strikes have targeted infrastructure and assembly areas, signaling Tehran’s concern about organized Kurdish forces gaining momentum. Observers note that cross-border pressure risks widening the fight and complicating operations for both militias and their backers.

Axios reported that President Trump spoke with Kurdish leadership in Iraq over the weekend, a conversation tied to preparations and coordination on the ground. Kurdish leaders and U.S. officials who briefed reporters suggested the Kurds would “come out of the woodwork” and will “rise up” once the campaign shifts to a ground offensive. If those reports hold, this would mark the first sustained ground operation since the broader campaign against Iran began, altering the conflict’s dynamics.

Smuggling networks established during the 12-day flare-up in 2025 have been crucial to moving arms and materiel into position, and analysts say those routes have been refined to reduce interception. Arms caches were reportedly pre-positioned near Kurdish-populated areas to allow for rapid dispersal to local brigades and irregular units. Commanders on the ground are said to be preparing logistics, command-and-control nodes, and liaison channels so disparate groups can operate with a degree of coordination once orders are given.

American and Israeli air superiority is playing a central role in the plan by creating safe corridors and suppressing Iranian strikes that would otherwise hinder a ground insertion. Planners expect air power to blunt Iranian counterattacks, provide close support, and interdict reinforcements, giving Kurdish fighters breathing space to consolidate gains. Even so, the campaign carries significant risks, including potential escalation, civilian harm in contested areas, and retaliatory strikes beyond Iran’s borders.

Editor’s Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
