Talarico Faces Backlash After $10 Million Epstein Donor Exposed

James Talarico’s week unraveled after news that one of his biggest backers appears in Epstein files, sparking outrage from an abuse victim’s family and questions about his alliances and judgment.

This week exposed a string of political and reputational problems for Democrat James Talarico as voters and critics dig into who is funding him and whom he’s aligned with. Revelations about a major donor’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein set off fresh scrutiny, and accusations from an abuse victim’s family added fuel to the fire.

Reporting shows that Talarico has been receiving large sums from billionaire Reid Hoffman, a donor whose name appears in the Epstein files for trips and exchanged gifts tied to Epstein. Those revelations put a spotlight on the money behind Talarico’s campaign and raised questions about vetting and judgment from his team and allies.

Federal records indicate Hoffman has given more than $10 million to Talarico or PACs supporting him, and that cash has flowed even as Talarico has tried to make sexual abuse a campaign issue against his opponent. Meanwhile, Talarico has even that “the Epstein class has no place in Texas” while attacking Ken Paxton, despite being bankrolled by people tied to Epstein.

The family of the sexual assault victim Talarico has invoked publicly pushed back, saying they are “tired of being used” after Talarico claimed contact and then repeatedly cited their situation in attacks. That rebuke undercuts Talarico’s messaging and suggests the political use of a private trauma has angered the people closest to it.

Talarico’s judgment has also been questioned for his ties to local Democrat Bobby Pulido, a controversial figure accused of defending a bandmate who was a registered sex offender. Pulido stirred outrage by downplaying abuse, saying that the molestation of youth “is not necessarily rape,” and later brought that bandmate to a fundraiser at a middle school—associations Talarico has so far refused to repudiate.

“It is disgusting and shameful that James Talarico values Epstein-linked billionaire pedophiles more than child sex abuse victims,” RNC spokesman Zach Kraft told Townhall. “Unfortunately, the warning signs have always been there, and this only raises further questions about why Talarico texted his middle school students late at night about sexually explicit material.”

Talarico’s past as a middle school teacher keeps resurfacing in these attacks, in part because of choices he made in the classroom that critics call questionable. He assigned The Handmaid’s Tale, a sexually explicit novel, to students and gave them his cell number, encouraging them to text him—moves opponents now highlight as poor judgment for someone running for the U.S. Senate.

With the contest against Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton looming, Talarico is defending his record while donors and associations now dominate the conversation. The race for this Senate seat is being watched closely, and these developments have shifted attention to fundraising sources and the candidate’s associations at a crucial moment.
