Trump Mobilizes Support In Vegas To Secure Midterm Wins

President Trump will visit Los Angeles and Las Vegas this week, mixing fundraising and an economy-focused speech as the GOP leans into the midterms, with Nevada races and California politics shaping the stakes for control of Congress and the direction of the next two years.

Trump’s West Coast swing hits Los Angeles for a Republican National Committee fundraiser on Tuesday and lands in Las Vegas on Wednesday for a speech centered on the economy. These stops are timed to rally donors, activists, and voters as Republicans press to win back or defend seats in November.

The visits matter because whichever party controls Congress will influence the remainder of the president’s term and shape policy on taxes, immigration, and public safety. Republicans see these events as a chance to reinforce the contrast between conservative economic policy and what they cast as Democratic mismanagement.

Nevada has become a prime target. Gov. Joe Lombardo (R-NV) faces Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford (D-NV) in a race the Cook Political Report rates a “toss-up,” and Lombardo is the lone incumbent in that category. Winning or losing Nevada could shift momentum and donor attention across the region.

The House picture matters too, with Rep. Susie Lee’s (D-NV) bid in the Third Congressional District listed as “Lean Democrat” while Republican Marty O’Donnell runs a campaign focused on pocketbook issues. “Very excited to welcome President Trump back to Nevada next week to discuss all the good that The Working Families Tax Cut has done for the people of our state,” O’Donnell posted to X on Saturday. “If Susie Lee had it her way, Nevada families would have been seen their tax bill skyrocket and tipped workers would have lost more of their money this year.”

Local Democrats are pushing back on economic claims, with Rep. Lee blasting tariffs in a message that read, “Trump’s reckless tariffs are hurting Las Vegas and Republicans in Congress are doing nothing to stop him.” Yet Trump carried Nevada in 2024, and he has pointed to Las Vegas as the place where he was inspired to push for “no tax on tips,” highlighting policies aimed at helping workers keep more of what they earn.

Beyond Nevada, California remains crucial for fundraising and optics. Republican organizers know California can supply big checks and national attention even as the state’s own contests and political climate provide a platform for contrasting conservative policy wins with what many Republicans call failed Democrat governance. The trip is part of a larger midterm push that also looks to the September RNC midterm convention in Dallas as a coordinating moment for messaging and mobilization.

White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales put the case plainly, saying, “President Trump will visit California on Tuesday to tout his wins for the people of the Golden State despite failed Democrat leadership: the largest middle-class tax cut ever, the most secure border in American history, and a plummeting crime rate.” “The President will draw a sharp contrast between his commonsense agenda and the radical policies of Democrats like Gavin Newsom, who keep raising taxes, inviting rampant fraud in taxpayer-funded programs, and protecting illegal immigrant drug dealers, rapists, and murderers,” she added.
