Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles was vandalized last week, just days after the country music icon died at age 80. Photos circulating on social media showed her name scratched off the star.
Ana Martinez, a spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, told TMZ the star already had cracks in it before the vandalism and that the chamber had scheduled repairs for Tuesday. Martinez said a fan reported on Monday that someone had stolen flowers left at the star and scratched it up.
Video footage obtained by KNX News showed repair work already underway by Tuesday on the star, which was dedicated to Parton in 1984.
Parton died on August 25 after a brief battle with cancer. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced her death in a video posted to her X account, saying that sadness “lies with us” but not with Parton, adding that “Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus.”
Over her career, Parton recorded more than 60 albums. A previously unheard song is set for release on January 19, 2046 — what would have been her 100th birthday. Parton wrote in her 2021 memoir, “Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics,” that the secret song is locked in a box on display at Dollywood’s Dream More Resort and Spa in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, according to WKRN.
Separately, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Nashville International Airport have said they intend to rename the airport after Parton, which would make it the first major U.S. international airport named for a woman.
