Fans of “Dutton Ranch,” the Yellowstone spin-off set in the fictional town of Rio Paloma, Texas, will have to wait longer for new episodes, but Paramount+ has confirmed the show is coming back for a second season.
There is no new episode airing this weekend, and there won’t be one soon. Season 1 wrapped after nine episodes, ending with the finale “El Padrino,” which left several major storylines unresolved. Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) learned their son Carter (Finn Little) had been kidnapped by a cartel. Beulah (Annette Bening) and Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) discovered that Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) had been fatally shot. And Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) was dealing with the fallout of his father Mariano’s (Raoul Max Trujillo) return to the show’s Texas setting.
Paramount+ officially renewed the series on Wednesday, June 24, ahead of the airing of Episode 8. The renewal came as little surprise given the show’s ratings performance. The series holds a Certified Fresh 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and Paramount+ reported that “Dutton Ranch” drew 12.9 million viewers globally in its first seven days — the biggest Original Series launch in Paramount+ history. Its two-episode debut on Paramount Network on May 15 pulled in 2.9 million total viewers, the biggest cable series premiere since 2023, with the premiere telecast alone drawing 1.85 million viewers and ranking as the top cable entertainment broadcast among adults 18-49 and total viewers.
“Dutton Ranch has resonated with audiences in a powerful way, building on the legacy of beloved characters, while establishing its own identity,” said Matt Thunell, President of Paramount Television Studios. “Thank you to our partners at Paramount+ and 101 Studios for a phenomenal first season. We look forward to bringing fans more stories from these unforgettable characters in Season 2.”
No premiere date has been set for Season 2, but The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed production is slated to begin in early 2027.
“We’re slated to start early 2027 to film,” Reilly told THR in July. “But the room starts up pretty quick. I think we’re going to be very much involved in the room, so the next sort of six months is all about writing it.”
If that timeline holds, Season 2 would likely arrive sometime in 2027.
Rumors of a rift between Hauser and series creator Taylor Sheridan have circulated among fans, but there is no indication Hauser or his character, Rip, is leaving the show. Hauser also serves as an executive producer on the series.
Season 2 will bring a new showrunner, Benjamin Cavell, who joined the production team ahead of the new season. Season 1 showrunner Chad Feehan left the series just three weeks before it premiered.
While “Dutton Ranch” fans wait, another Sheridan project set in the same universe, “Marshals,” has a confirmed return date. Season 2 of that series, which follows Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, premieres Sunday, October 4, on CBS, with streaming available on Paramount+.
Season 1 of “Dutton Ranch” remains available to stream on Paramount+, which offers an ad-supported Essential plan for $8.99 a month and an ad-free Premium plan, which includes Showtime titles and live CBS, for $13.99 a month. The show can also be accessed through Hulu or Prime Video by adding a Paramount+ subscription.
