Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said Friday that if Democrats win control of the House in the midterm elections, they would launch an extensive round of investigations targeting Trump administration officials, the president’s family and prominent business figures.
Speaking on Breitbart News Daily, Jordan said a Democratic majority would turn congressional oversight power into what he called a weapon. “They take the oversight function, which is a constitutional duty we have, they take it and turn it into weaponization and it’ll be in an unprecedented fashion, you can already see Jamie Raskin, my counterpart on the Judiciary Committee. They’re already gearing up if, in fact, they win,” Jordan said, referring to Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD).
Jordan said he does not expect Democrats to win, predicting Republicans will hold the House and keep the Senate. But he said that if Democrats do take the House, he expects them to try to impeach President Trump for a third time. “They say they won’t, but they will,” he said.
Jordan said the investigations would extend well beyond the president. He said Democrats would scrutinize every member of the first family, cabinet secretaries and other administration officials, as well as figures in the private sector.
“They will go after business leaders. You know, it’s coming for Elon, and there’ll be others as well,” Jordan said, referring to Elon Musk.
Jordan also said he expects Democrats to focus on whoever they believe is likely to become the Republican nominee for president in the future, naming Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance as likely targets. “They will dig into those guys, go after them, and create that whole scene,” he said.
Jordan argued that if Republicans hold the Senate but lose the House, Democrats would be unable to pass much legislation and would instead devote their efforts to oversight investigations. “That’s what we can expect on the oversight front, and that’ll be their entire focus,” Jordan said.
