Justin Turner has added another championship to his resume, this time with a team much closer to home for Tijuana baseball fans: the Toros de Tijuana.
The former Los Angeles Dodgers infielder and fan favorite served as designated hitter for the Toros this year after no MLB team offered him a minor league contract. He signed instead with the Mexican League club for the 2026 season.
Earlier this week, the Toros de Tijuana clinched the Mexican League championship, defeating the Olmecas de Tabasco in six games.
Turner, 41, celebrated the win in a post on X, describing his decision to join the Toros as driven by more than just wanting to keep playing.
“I came to the @torosdetijuana because I knew there was more in the tank, but the goal was never to just play. It was always to win, to bring another championship to Tijuana! And the boys accomplished that! This was such a great group of guys, and not everyone who was a part of it got to hold that trophy, but we couldn’t have done it without them either. We will be bonded together forever in this championship!!”
Turner also reflected on his time in the city, writing about his affection for Tijuana beyond the ballpark.
“From the second I drove across the border in TJ for the first time, I have loved every moment. The fans, the food, the stadiums, and the baseball. This is definitely a summer to remember and I cant thank my family enough for always being down for a new adventure!”
This marks Turner’s second championship. He won his first and only World Series ring with the Dodgers in 2020, a postseason in which he broke the franchise’s postseason home run record with his 12th career playoff homer in Game 4 against the Tampa Bay Rays, surpassing Duke Snider.
Turner played nine seasons with the Dodgers, from 2014 to 2022, and earned two All-Star selections during his time with the team.
