LSU and Ole Miss meet this week in one of the most closely watched games of the college football season so far, with former Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin returning to face his old team for the first time since taking the LSU job.
LSU enters the matchup ranked seventh in the nation and unbeaten through two games. The Tigers opened the season with a 51-10 win over Clemson before beating Louisiana Tech 45-14 in Week 2. Quarterback Sam Leavitt has thrown two touchdowns and four interceptions in those two games.
Ole Miss is also 2-0. The Rebels beat Louisville 41-38 in their season opener and followed that with a 41-9 win over Charlotte last week.
Chambliss Leading the Way
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who played a key role in Kiffin’s success with the Rebels last season, gained eligibility after a court battle and has continued to produce this year. He is 44-for-62 passing with five touchdowns and one interception through two games.
Running back Kewan Lacy has also been a major contributor, carrying the ball on half of Ole Miss’s rushing attempts for 148 yards and three touchdowns so far this season.
The Kiffin Storyline
Kiffin’s departure from Ole Miss for the LSU job has been the dominant storyline heading into the matchup. His return to Oxford is expected to draw heavy attention from fans and media throughout the week, in addition to the game itself.
Betting odds for the game opened close to even, though the line has since shifted toward LSU as the favorite.
