Major League Baseball has approached the White House about the possibility of staging a special outdoor game inside Grand Teton National Park, according to a statement from the administration, though no permits have been issued and no plans have been finalized.
The White House said MLB reached out about hosting a game on federal land “similar to the Field of Dreams game” that the league has staged in Iowa in recent years. But officials were quick to distance themselves from the idea.
“This is not a Presidential directive, nor is it being directed by the White House. It’s also not being driven by the Department of Interior,” the White House statement read. “Therefore, this is not a White House or Administration priority.”
The administration also emphasized that the National Park Service has not granted MLB any permit, and that the league has not locked in venue plans. “If the MLB wants to go on site visits of national parks, that is their prerogative,” the statement said.
National Park Service Deputy Director Frank Lands reportedly traveled to Wyoming to look at three potential sites inside Grand Teton National Park. The White House later said Lands was not specifically scouting for a baseball diamond, characterizing the trip instead as a routine visit to several parks.
MLB has built a track record of staging games away from traditional ballparks, including the Field of Dreams game in Iowa, the Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, a game at Rickwood Field in Alabama, and a 2025 event at Bristol Motor Speedway. Those games have drawn strong fan interest, which appears to be driving the league’s interest in a national park setting.
Turning any part of Grand Teton into a temporary big-league venue would be a significant undertaking. It would likely require temporary grandstands, lighting towers, traffic management, and measures to keep wildlife such as grizzly bears, bison and elk away from the field. Any such project would also need to go through environmental review and public comment periods before construction could begin.
With MLB’s special-event schedule already set for 2027, the earliest a game could realistically take place at Grand Teton would be 2028, if the plan moves forward at all.
