Rapper Nicki Minaj is encouraging young Americans to vote Republican in the upcoming midterm elections, telling viewers of “My View with Lara Trump” that their participation is essential regardless of which party they support.
“Now is not the time to think that your voice will not be heard. Your voice will not only be heard, but your voice is very necessary right now for the country and for the world. We need you guys involved,” Minaj said during the appearance.
“We need you guys involved more than ever before. This is your country, this is your world. You are the ones that have to reap the benefits of whatever vote decisions we make now,” she added.
Minaj, who is originally from New York, told viewers to think carefully about how much say they want in future policy decisions.
“Think about how much you want a say in what happens and realize that the only way to have that is by voting — not just voting for the president, but just voting in all of the local elections. Please, and vote red now.”
The midterm elections are scheduled for November 3rd. Political analysts have described the coming cycle as likely to be close and contentious.
Minaj’s latest comments continue a string of political statements she has made over the past year. Last November, she publicly thanked President Donald Trump for intervening in what she described as the “mass slaughter” of Christians in Nigeria by radical Islamists, and separately thanked the administration for featuring one of her songs in a TikTok video.
She has also criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, over what she called his “trans kids’ policies,” telling him “It’s the end of the road for you.”
In December, Minaj appeared before a large crowd at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, where she praised the organization founded by the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk as “a direct link between young people and God.”
Last month, Minaj endorsed Rep. Byron Donalds, a Republican from Florida, in his bid to become the state’s next governor, and asked her fans, known as the “Barbz,” to support his campaign.
