Ahead of Saturday’s Ole Miss-LSU game in Oxford, vulgar bed sheet banners have gone up around the University of Mississippi campus this week targeting Landry Kiffin, the 21-year-old daughter of LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, who is returning to Oxford for the first time since leaving Ole Miss last fall.
Landry Kiffin, who still attends Ole Miss, is the subject of banners suggesting she had a sexual relationship with a former Ole Miss player. The claim stems from a long-running rumor in Oxford that Landry Kiffin had sexual relations with the player during her father’s tenure as Ole Miss head coach. Some fans have suggested this rumor explains why the player was largely benched last season.
Kiffin responded to the banners in a TikTok video posted Wednesday night, saying she was being “turned into a punchline of a sexual joke” and denying she ever knew the player in question.
“I understand emotions are high this week, and people are upset, but I’m my own person,” Kiffin said. “I’ll never understand how someone can feel good about themselves putting such vulgar things about a girl on a giant banner hanging from their house.”
She said in the video that students are “saying really inappropriate things about me with somebody I genuinely have never met in my life, which makes it even more frustrating,” adding that she hopes “people realize there is an actual person behind the jokes people make.”
Landry Kiffin has been dating current LSU linebacker Whit Weeks since last season. She remains enrolled at Ole Miss despite her father’s departure to LSU last fall, a fact that has added tension to Saturday night’s matchup between the two teams.
The banners are part of a broader atmosphere of tension surrounding the game. Police presence in Oxford has been heightened this week. LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt was listed as “doubtful” on Wednesday’s injury report, and LSU defensive end Princewill Umanmielen was served with court papers by Ole Miss earlier this week.
