Two California pizzerias have tied for fifth place in the 2026 50 Top Pizza world rankings, announced Tuesday in Naples, Italy. Los Angeles’ Pizzeria Sei and San Francisco’s Tony’s Pizza Napoletana both landed at No. 5, marking a climb for each from their 2025 positions.
Pizzeria Sei rose from No. 9 last year, while Tony’s Pizza Napoletana moved up from No. 10.
Tony’s, located on Stockton Street in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, has become a familiar name on the annual list. Owner Tony Gemignani’s restaurant ranked No. 6 in 2024, No. 19 in 2023 and No. 10 in 2022. Gemignani traveled to Naples for Tuesday’s ceremony.
The restaurant celebrated the honor on Instagram, writing, “We would like to congratulate and thank our team at Tony’s for all their dedicated hard work. We love pizza here at Tony’s and to be recognized with this award is an honor.”
In Los Angeles, Pizzeria Sei’s new ranking follows earlier recognition as the No. 2 pizzeria in the United States and the top-ranked pizza spot in California. The Tokyo-style Italian pizzeria opened in 2022, founded by chef William Joo, who was born in South Korea and raised in Los Angeles, along with his wife and business partner, Jennifer So.
Joo’s approach blends traditional Neapolitan pizza-making with Japanese precision, resulting in the blistered, leopard-spotted crusts that have made the original West Pico Boulevard location a destination for pizza fans. The Michelin Guide-recommended restaurant expanded further with a larger West LA location that opened June 24.
