Unverified reports circulating on social media claim that a drone struck the Kapotnya Oil Refinery in Moscow just days after former President Donald Trump announced that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to stop hitting each other’s energy infrastructure. No government or independent news organization has confirmed the strike, who carried it out, or whether any damage occurred.
The claim originated with posts from two social media accounts, Faytuks Network and Current Report, on September 20, 2026, and was later reported by Gateway Pundit. Faytuks Network wrote that “six days after Trump’s TruthSocial post … the Kapotnya Oil Refinery in Moscow is reportedly targeted in a Ukrainian drone strike.” Current Report separately warned that such attacks “could push global energy prices even higher.”
According to the Gateway Pundit account, the Kapotnya refinery sits in Moscow’s southeastern Kapotnya district, roughly 12 to 15 kilometers from the Kremlin, and is described as one of Russia’s ten largest refineries. Those details have not been independently verified.
The reports come six days after Trump posted on Truth Social on September 14, 2026: “Ukraine has agreed not to hit Russian Energy targets. Russia has agreed to do, likewise! The World’s Diesel price rise is mostly caused by the Russia/Ukraine War, not Iran. President DJT.”
A day before that post, Trump had publicly urged Ukraine, while speaking in Ireland, to halt strikes on Russian diesel refineries, arguing the attacks were contributing to a global diesel shortage.
The social media posts tie the alleged strike directly to concerns about energy markets. Current Report suggested that continued strikes on Russian oil facilities could raise global fuel prices, echoing the argument Trump made in his own post linking refinery attacks to rising diesel costs.
