The New York Jets drew criticism from sports radio veteran Mike Francesa after the team’s social media account posted a message celebrating a minor statistical highlight during a lopsided Week 4 loss to the Chicago Bears.
During the game, while trailing 13-3, the Jets’ social media team highlighted running back Braelon Allen’s 26 rushing yards on four consecutive carries to open the second half. The team ultimately lost the game, with Chicago dominating time of possession 42 minutes, 15 seconds to New York’s 17 minutes, 15 seconds. The Bears ran 89 offensive plays compared to just 32 for the Jets.
Asked about the post during an appearance on NBC Sports’ “Fanta in 60,” Francesa initially questioned whether it was genuine.
“I’m not familiar with this. You’re saying the Jets themselves … Now, I don’t know if that’s real or not. In this day and age, we don’t know what’s real or what’s not. That’s a big problem in every part of news, including sports,” Francesa said.
He went on to criticize the organization regardless of the post’s authenticity.
“But if it is real and that’s the first I’ve seen of it, let me just explain one thing to you as someone who has been around the Jets, viewed the Jets, and know the Jets very well – the Jets can screw up a one-car funeral,” Francesa said. “They are a mess. They are terribly run – from the owner on down. So, nothing they would do that is stupid would ever surprise me.”
The post has since been confirmed as authentic and remained visible on X as of Wednesday.
The social media moment came during a difficult stretch for the franchise. Chicago linebacker Devin Bush described the matchup as one of the “easiest” games he has played in his NFL career, underscoring how one-sided the contest became.
The loss leaves the Jets at 1-3 on the season. New York will host the AFC North-leading Cleveland Browns this coming Sunday.
