Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers after doctors found a superficial blood clot in his calf, a condition he has been treated for over nearly a week.
The Eagles explained the timeline in a statement released Thursday. Hurts first sought treatment for his calf on Thursday, October 8, telling medical staff he had been cleated during the team’s October 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He had already practiced in full on both Wednesday and Thursday before that initial treatment session, and he continued to receive treatment and practice fully on Friday, when he was added to the injury report.
Out of what the team called an abundance of caution, an ultrasound was performed Saturday after the Eagles’ flight to London for their game there. That scan revealed the superficial blood clot. Team medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and determined that activity and mobility were important for Hurts, clearing him to play, though doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the flight back to Philadelphia.
Hurts played without limitation in Sunday’s game, then received treatment Monday and Tuesday and practiced fully Wednesday. The team says it stayed in contact with the league office throughout the process.
