Rob Havenstein, the recently retired offensive lineman for the Los Angeles Rams, traveled to Alaska for a hunting trip that ended with him taking down a large brown bear.
The 34-year-old former left tackle, a Super Bowl champion, shared photos from the trip on his Instagram page on Thursday. The images show the brown bear towering over Havenstein, who stands 6-foot-8.
Havenstein explained his reasoning for the trip in the post, saying he wanted a challenge after stepping away from football.
“I knew when I retired that I wanted to go somewhere wild, experience something outside of my comfort zone and chase incredible critters,” Havenstein wrote. “Alaskan Brown Bear presented that opportunity.”
He added that the experience gave him more than just a successful hunt.
“The main goal was obviously to hunt a mature brown bear, but what I took home with me was so much more than that. Appreciation for these incredible animals and the beautiful habitat they live in.”
Havenstein thanked those who helped guide him during the hunt. The rest of his Instagram post documented other parts of the Alaska trip, including photos of a lake where he fished, a wild salmon he caught, and his campsite.
