Texas-born country singer Koe Wetzel posted photos on Instagram Wednesday showing off a large bull elk he harvested, continuing what has been a busy hunting season for several country music performers.
In the photo, Wetzel poses behind the elk with a compound bow laid across the animal, which has a large set of antlers. The caption on the post reads simply, “Oklahoma Breakdown,” a possible nod to a song by Stoney LaRue, though it’s unclear whether the phrase also indicates where the hunt took place.
The post came a day after Wetzel shared another set of photos on Instagram with the caption, “Posted from a remote area hunting elk.”
Wetzel, 34, grew up in East Texas and has hunted since childhood. In a 2024 interview with Hook & Barrel, he said he received his first bow at age 8 and still practices archery throughout the year, sometimes taking his bows with him while on tour.
He made his hunting priorities clear during a June appearance on the “Country Outdoors” podcast.
“October to February don’t call me cause you’re probably not gonna get a nice response,” Wetzel said.
This isn’t the first large elk Wetzel has taken. He has previously harvested a bull elk in New Mexico, reportedly with a rifle shot from more than 540 yards. In a 2025 appearance on “Country Outdoors,” he also discussed a bull elk that measured more than 380 inches, though it isn’t clear whether that was the same animal.
Wetzel’s latest Instagram post does not include details about the score of the elk or where exactly the hunt occurred.
Wetzel is among several country artists who have posted about hunting trips this fall, including Luke Combs, Riley Green, Parker McCollum, Sam Barber and Chris Janson, who recently discussed an elk hunt in Colorado.
